I’m very excited that Solstice Senior Living has joined out community of partner organizations. Thirty years ago, my very first job was delivering the Bellingham Herald to the lovely folks who lived in the building where Solstice Senior Living is now. We called it the “Pink Palace” back then. 😃 

The location is the same, but the facilities have been updated, and they are gorgeous! We got a tour and are so impressed. We look forward to learning about Solstice over the coming months.

Hamster Wheel reader and Director at Burnish Clay Studio, Heather Hitt emailed us a note this week about summer classes they are offering. So down the rabbit hole I went, and folks this looks like a LOT of fun 🙂. A great way to get your hands dirty and find a like-minded creative community.

Burnish is a clay arts studio located in the Sunnyland neighborhood that offers both Hand Building, and Potters Wheel classes. There are lots of adult classes and a few teen and kid options. Heather mentioned classes fill up very quickly once availability is posted, so jump into a class now if you’re interested.

The Burnish Studio Facebook page is a great place to get inspired by the works of current and past members. 👆️ Beautiful cups, bowls, and vases. Amazing sculptures. And, a lot of Hamsters coming together to create. Find this summer’s classes here.

In other news…

⛵️ Register today for this Friday’s All Ages Solstice Splash at the Community Boating Center in Fairhaven. There’s a Landlubber option for those who prefer terra firma below their toes, and a Play On The Bay option for those who’s idea of fun is waves lapping at the bow. 😉 

This event is a big deal for the Community Boating Center, as donations help fund their youth programs and scholarships. Our kids learned to kayak and sail at the CBC as part of the 14,000 hours of youth programming they delivered last year. These are opportunities most of us could not extend to our kids without this amazing resource right here in town. Grab a ticket or two and support the CBC.

Drummer Jerry Steinhilber leads an explosive line-up to celebrate legendary Blue Note Records this Wednesday. This specially curated performance will close out the Jazz Center season by taking attendees on a journey through the world-renowned Blue Note catalog. Grab a ticket.

Join Ruby Koa to celebrate the solstice with at least 15 minutes of walking mediation followed by an hour-long sound bath. Bring a yoga mat, blanket or sleeping bag, and dress warm! Thursday, 6 pm, at Fairhaven Park. Register.

Blue Drinks, Zeeks Pizza - Blue Drinks is a public networking meet up, with the Whatcom Working Waterfront Coalition, for anyone interested in our waterfronts. There will be a short presentation and time to mingle and chat about all things around our shores with other folks in your community. 5:30 pm and open to all.
