🐹 Twig & Tinder 🐇🐇

Good morning, Bellingham. This is your Wednesday update from The Hamster Wheel.
The occasional haze of wildfire smoke can be tough on the lungs, but holy cow, those sunrises!!! They’re tempting me to upgrade my camera. 😛 So much color!
Have fun, and stay safe out there!

There’s nothing better on a quiet midweek than a cat photo or two, and the Whatcom Humane Society (WHS) supplied us with a few heart-melting cuties this week. 👇️ Just take a look at that little face on the left side!! 🥰 And that furry cuddle puddle in the background. Too darn sweet!

These sweet felines are part of a new wave of stray cats and kittens that WHS has accepted and is looking to rehome after each is “scanned for a microchip, then receive an examination, first round of vaccines, de-wormer and flea treatment.” WHS stresses that their cat facilities are full, and they are seeking “donations of canned pate cat food, cat toys or other supplies” at the Division St. animal shelter.

Maybe you’re not a cat person?…not sure how that’s possible. 😕 If so, meet Twig & Tinder 👆️ a pair of shockingly cute female rabbits looking for a forever home together.
In other news…
🦆 The North Cascades Audubon Society has begun posting its fall birding outings and they are filling up fast! So fast, in fact, I was hoping to post about the first, and it was full by the time the newsletter was complete. 😲

There’s currently one outing accepting enrollment. It’s being held this Sunday at the Little Squalicum Estuary from 9 am to 11 am. This monthly outing offers the chance to learn about both songbirds and waterbirds right here in the Ham. Register here, and watch for future birding events.
🥾 Do you have a copy of Hiking Whatcom County by Ken Wilcox on your bookshelf? I do, and I’m guessing many of you do too. It’s become a go-to resource for many of us since its debut publication in 2003.

Ken, a longtime Bellinghamster, will be sharing about his favorite hikes in Whatcom, Snohomish, and Island counties tomorrow, September 11th, at Village Books in Fairhaven. Reserve a seat to hear Ken.
⛷️ Last but not least, the Mt. Baker Volunteer Association (MBVA) is holding a fundraiser tomorrow night from 5 to 9 pm at Boundary Bay’s beer garden.

“MBVA members include Volunteer Ski Patrol, Mountain Hosts, Aid Room and Community Event Hosts. They are dedicated to making a difference by providing essential services and support to Mt. Baker Ski Area and the local community.”
