Halloween Night Outlook

Based on the current weather forecast from the National Weather Service, Iโ€™d factor galoshes and a poncho into your costume. โ˜”๏ธ Below is the hourly forecast tool with an orange bar (my addition) over normal trick-or-treating hours. Itโ€™s showing between 95โ€“98% chance of rain, with a moderate 14 mph breeze and gusts as high as 32 mph. ๐Ÿ™„

Since thatโ€™s kind of a bummer, hereโ€™s a picture of a pumpkin driving a watermelon with apple slice wheels.

There are oodles of indoor and outdoor Halloween events tonight! Here are a few that tickled my fancy. Iโ€™m including links when possible so you can check for updates.

  • The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Mount Baker Theatre. Details

  • Downtown Trick-or-Treat in downtown Bham. Details

๐Ÿฆˆ Local Read: In a new Salish Current feature, reporter Sam Fletcher explores how PNW researchers seek comprehensive dogfish data. Researchers from WDFW, NOAA, and Oregon State University are using innovative techniquesโ€”from satellite tagging to radiocarbon dating shark eyesโ€”to better understand spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias) age, migration, and sustainability. Extremely cool article; itโ€™s worth a read. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

If youโ€™re hankering for an adventure next week, head for the coast where Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is opening several beaches to razor clam digging from Monday, November 3 through Sunday, November 9.

The open beaches are Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis, and Mocrocks Beach. โ€œThe upcoming digs have some of the lowest tides of the season,โ€ said Bryce Blumenthal, a WDFW coastal shellfish biologist. โ€œFall weather has arrived with high winds and seas, so be sure to check the forecasted weather and prepare accordingly before coming out to dig.โ€
