🐹 Down The Hatch 🐸🐸

Good morning, Bellingham. This is your Wednesday update from The Hamster Wheel.
I know it’s a school day… but take a look at the high-temp today, and the noontime tides!!! It would be a shame not to drag those kids to the beach. 🌴😉
Have fun, and stay safe out there!

The Addams Family, A Musical
Wednesday, June 4 at 7:00 pm

A comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, The Addams Family is the magnificently macabre hit musical featuring everyone's favorite creepy, kooky characters.
With an original story that is every father's nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man her parents have never met. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he's never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents. (Tickets start at $69.25)

Sue C. Boynton and the Poets of Whatcom County
Tomorrow, join poets at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal (7 pm) to celebrate the 20th annual Sue C. Boynton Poetry Contest Awards Ceremony recognizing twenty poems chosen from hundreds submitted by Whatcom County residents
The contest is named for Sue Crocker Boynton, an early resident of Whatcom County, Washington, who helped organize Bellingham’s PTAs, St. Luke’s Hospital Assistance League, and was a poet who poured her emotions and thoughts into verse and inspired others to write.

Sue Crocker Boynton
Each selected poem was given to an artist to create beautiful placards prints which ride on the Whatcom Transit buses, circulate in the libraries and are posted in schools. Ten of the poems are made into plaques for the Poetry Walk outside the Bellingham Library.

This year's awards ceremony will feature poets reading their poem, Jansen Jazz band, and Paul Hansen co-owner of Village Books. Emcee is Kevin Murphy. The judges were Tom Moore, a WWU professor and Rena Priest, past WA state poet laureate. The youngest winner this year is in first grade! His poem is, Nature.
In other news…
🏡 The Whatcom County Charter Review Commission meets tomorrow (May 29) in the Civic Annex Building Garden Room at 6 pm or watch via Zoom. If you’re the kind who likes to watch as the sausage is made, start watching the Charter Commission meeting videos in order from the beginning. It’s way better than Netflix. 😉

Beach Cat’s South Paw Opening Thursday
I’ve been excitedly watching as Beach Cat Brewing’s new location on the Bellingham waterfront took shape over the last few months. I LOVE it when industrial spaces are repurposed and what better purpose is there then a place to gather with friends. 🙂 And, check out that view across the Whatcom Creek Waterway. 👇️

So where is it exactly? Right about….. here. 👇️

It’s on C Street, just not a section of C that many of us have driven before. If you’re driving Holly or Roeder turn to the South East on C and you’ll find South Paw on your left.
Doors open at 11 am, and I for one am excited. I know there’s been a lot of talk about it being a hard environment for new breweries, but I think the location alone with it’s proximity to the Port’s waterfront developments will give Beach Cat a boost. Best of luck to them! 🍻
