Supporting Foothills Communities

🥗 Mark your calendar. This Friday is the Foothills Feast Fest at the beautiful Empyrean Farm, located along the Mount Baker Highway northeast of Deming. Proceeds from this event support the Foothills Food Bank which distributes food resources to families in need throughout the Mount Baker and Foothills Community, and served 29,036 people last year alone!

“Savor fresh paella made on-site by Paellaworks with local ingredients, enjoy craft beer from North Fork Brewery, and listen to live music. Take a farm tour, browse our silent auction, and connect with the incredible community that makes our work possible.”

Empyrean Farm is owned by Eliza Steele and Jeremy Dehnert 👆️ who practice agroecological farming on the 37 acre property.

The Feast Fest is an opportunity to tour a local farm, enjoy some live music and delicious food, all while supporting an important Whatcom County organization. Schedule and details.

🤖 Deborah Hanuscin, professor and researcher in Western’s SMATE (Science, Math, and Technology Education) and Elementary Education departments, sent a note that enrolment is still open for Western’s FREE half-day Ocean Tech camps for kids (rising 5th & 6th graders) that runs from August 4th to 8th. And, it looks like so much fun!! 

“While lots of amazing things live underwater, humans can’t—so they have to be creative in exploring the subtidal world. In this week-long half-day camp, you’ll learn how first nations designed devices to harvest dentalium shells (used as money) from the deep sea, and work as part of an engineering team to design a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that can be used to explore the subtidal zone.” This makes me want to be a kid again. 😀 Grab one of the 30 remaining spots for your kiddo.

Rushadicus (Rushad Eggleston) the infamous Cello Goblin from the land of Sneth brings his one-man, immersive, improvisational show to The Shakedown. Featuring experimental cello "metal", mystical goblin stunts, and nonstop "jicking". Snag a ticket or two for the Thursday show.

A two-hour outdoor concert in Elizabeth Park. D'Vas and Dudes play Country Folk, Rock, Blues & Boogie Woogie from 6-8pm on Thursday. Bring your lawn chairs and relax. These Family-Friendly concerts are a Mayor’s Arts Awards recipient for 2018. Concerts are free, and sponsored by The Eldridge Society for History and Preservation.
